ME Recommends: Festive Reads

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Here’s what the Mushens Entertainment team are reading (and snacking on!) this festive season…

Juliet recommends…

I love LITTLE WOMEN by Louisa May Alcott, it always makes me feel extremely Christmassy – something about the portrayal of a close, loving, bickering family I find very familiar! I also really recommend the most recent adaptation of it, although I am still mad that Amy ended up with Laurie and will take that rage to my deathbed.

Charbonnel & Walker gingerbread truffles! They only sell them at Christmas and they are the nicest thing I have ever eaten.

Liza recommends…

THE MITTEN by Jan Brett is a children’s book, but I love reading it every winter. It tells a beautiful story about all the animals in the woods who find a mitten. One by one, they climb inside to keep warm on a cold winter’s day. It is a beautiful retelling of the classic Ukrainian story.

I love a good cup of tea, but when it comes to the holiday season, mulled apple cider is where it is at! An apple orchard where I grew up always made non-alcoholic cider that’s the perfect warm drink for some winter reading. It’s *chef’s kiss* with a good book.

Silé recommends…

BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE by Emily Bell - I read this recently and it is such a wonderfully warming romantic read. It’s about a long lost love and an old promise at Christmas: perfect to cosy up with over the festive season!

Hot Chocolate is my all-time fave for any time of year but I especially love it at Christmas because you get all the cool flavours and variations like candy cane, spiced cinnamon or gingerbread – all delicious!

Kiya recommends…

Christmas makes me want to read childhood classics, and something about BALLET SHOES by Noël Streatfeild makes me feel extremely warm and festive! I was obsessed with this book when I was younger, and although my dream of becoming a ballerina was extremely short-lived, this delightful and uplifting story lets me live vicariously through the Fossil sisters.

Iced lebkuchen stars (Sainsbury’s own, and definitely not traditional!) are dangerously addictive, and it’s probably a good thing that they’re only sold at Christmas! I love cosying up with a bag of these and the cinematic masterpiece that is You’ve Got Mail.
