Spring Rights Update

The Mushens Entertainment team headed off to the London Book Fair this April and had a fantastic time selling rights internationally. If you are curious about the fair, you can read more about what happens at a book fair here!

Rights

  • Katie Seaman at HQ has acquired UK & Comm (ex Canada) rights to THE REVELS by Stacey Thomas in a two-book deal after a four-way auction! Spanish rights were then quickly scooped up by Urano. 

  • US rights to Rajasree Variyar’s debut novel THE DAUGHTERS OF MADURAI have sold to Union Square in a pre-empt!

  • German to TWELVE SECRETS by Robert Gold have sold to Goldmann, and following the London Book Fair, French, Czech, Croatian, and Slovene rights Lafon, Alpress, Znanje, and HKZ respectively. This debut thriller has now sold over 15,000 copies since publication. 

  • Czech readers will soon have their own edition of Anna Mazzola’s THE CLOCKWORK GIRL which has sold to Bourdon, and Romanian rights have gone to Humanitas.

  • German rights to PANDORA by Susan Stokes-Chapman were pre-empted by DTV following her debut at #1 on the Sunday Times Bestseller list in February.

  • Japanese rights for THE SHAPE OF DARKNESS and THE CURSE OF THE MUSE by Laura Purcell have sold to Hayakawa.

  • Taran Matharu’s debut adult fantasy trilogy, DRAGON RIDER, was pre-empted in both the UK and the US by HarperVoyager. Spanish rights were pre-empted by Urano, Danish rights have gone to Forar, and Dutch rights to Van Goor. Furthermore, the CONTENDER series was also pre-empted by Urano. 

  • Spanish rights to THE BEHOLDERS by Hester Musson have sold to Versatil, after the UK rights were pre-empted by Katie Bowden at 4th Estate.  

  • BREATHLESS by Amy McCulloch has sold in Croatia to Znanje, in Macedonia to Bookland, in Poland to Marginesy, and Italian rights were scooped up by Newton Compton, making 14 publishers in total!  

  • First international rights to THE FINAL STRIFE by Saara El-Arifi have sold to Oscar Vault Mondadori in Italy. 

  • Brazilian readers will soon fall in love with THE BONE SHARD DAUGHTER and THE BONE SHARD EMPEROR by Andrea Stewart as rights have been snatched up by Autentica.  

  • Croatian rights to THE HOUSE OF FORTUNE by Jessie Burton have gone to Profil, Presença have take Portuguese rights, and Literackie have obtained rights in Poland. Furthermore, Romanian rights to THE HOUSE OF FORTUNE, THE MINIATURIST, and THE MUSE have gone to Humanitas, who recently published THE CONFESSION. 

  • Taiwanese rights to Claire Douglas’s THE COUPLE AT NO 9 have sold at auction to Ecus. Czech rights to THE COUPLE AT NO 9 and THEN SHE VANISHES sold to Albatros. Lastly, Claire’s upcoming title THE GIRLS WHO DISAPPEARED sold in the US to HarperCollins in a six-figure deal.

  • Turkish reader will continue to delight in THE BONES OF YOU by Debbie Howells as rights have been renewed by Olimpos. 

  • Having devoured the first book, Thai readers will soon get an edition of Richard Osman’s THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE as Biblio have acquired rights. Furthermore, Italian rights to Richard Osman’s THE BULLET THAT MISSED  have been taken up by SEM. Lastly, French paperback rights to THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE have gone to Livre de Poche.

  • Amy McCulloch was recently featured on the Today Show in the US talking about her novel BREATHLESS. She talks brilliantly about her book and what it means to push yourself in extreme environments, and challenge not only your body, but your mind as well. The clip has been received incredibly well in the US and you can watch it here

  • Richard Osman continues to dominate both the hardback and paperback Sunday Times Bestsellers list. THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE is #6 on the hardback list, and #8 on the paperback with THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB.

  • Abigail Dean’s debut GIRL A has been shortlisted in the Best First Novel category at this year’s International Thriller Awards. She has also been shortlisted for the Specsavers Debut Crime Novel Award at CrimeFest. Richard Osman has also been nominated at CrimeFest but for the Audible Sounds Crime Award for THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE.  

  • Three Mushens Entertainment authors have been shortlisted for the British Book Awards! THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE by Richard Osman and GIRL A by Abigail Dean were both shortlisted in the Best Crime and Thriller Book category, with the former also shortlisted for Audiobook Fiction book of the year! Meanwhile, Elodie Harper’s novel THE WOLF DEN has been shortlisted in the Book of the Year: Pageturner category. The British Book Awards, aka The Nibbies, represent the absolute best of the book trade, showcasing the books, bookshops, agents and publishers who make this industry shine.
