Claire has wanted to be a writer since she was a child. She studied journalism at university and worked for various press agencies and magazines while writing novels in her spare time. In 2013 she won the Marie Claire Debut Novel award with The Sisters which went on to be published by HarperCollins in August that year. She moved to Penguin Michael Joseph with her second thriller, Local Girl Missing, which was her first Sunday Times top ten bestseller. Published in Germany as Missing in 2018 by Penguin Verlag, it placed in the German bestseller charts for six consecutive weeks and was the bestselling crime debut of that year. Since then, she has written eight more bestselling thrillers; Last Seen Alive, Do Not Disturb, Then She Vanishes, Just Like the Other Girls, The Couple at No 9, The Girls Who Disappeared, The Woman Who Lied and The Wrong Sister.

The Girls Who Disappeared was a Sunday Times number one bestseller in 2022, and The Woman Who Lied was shortlisted for the British Book Awards Crime and Thriller book of the year. Her most recent thriller, The Wrong Sister, was her first hardback and placed at number two on the Sunday Times Original Fiction list and was in the top ten for six consecutive weeks. She’s a regular Richard and Judy Book Club Pick, has had two number one bestselling books in Germany, is published in 24 counties and has sold over two million copies in the UK alone.

Claire lives in Bath with her husband, children, and two very fluffy cats.
