Books in the Media

Our amazing authors have received lots of great press this past week!

  • THE HUNGRY DARK by Jen Williams has been selected by Amazon as a pick of the month for April in Best Mystery, Thriller and Suspense!

  • For Stylist magazine Jen Williams contributed to their piece on horror fiction and why it’s facing a resurgence. Also featured is her newest horror novel, THE HUNGRY DARK, which publishes next week! Jen writes, “Women have always been writing in this genre [after all, Mary Shelley was one of the earliest proponents of the genre with Frankenstein in 1818 while Shirley Jackson is the great-grandmother of the modern horror novel], but it feels as though the spotlight has finally been turned in this direction, and if there’s one thing women tend to do when confronted with awful things, it’s face them.”

  • Claire Douglas and Robert Gold are in The SundayTimes crime fiction round-up! In their review of TEN SECONDS they write that “Gold’s novels have intriguing plots and a powerful sense of place.” TEN SECONDS is also listed as one of The Times’ top 10 best crime and mystery books of 2024. They call THE WRONG SISTER “outstanding” and in their review conclude that “Douglas’s novel is a terrific family drama, revealing how little the sisters know about each other and their own history.”

  • Cosmopolitan have featured Francesca De Tores’ SALTBLOOD in their historical fiction round-up!

  • Abigail Dean’s DAY ONE is a thriller pick of the month for The Times. They review: “…it thoughtfully explores the reverberations of trauma, the unintended consequences of actions and the fragile web of relations between friends and family. Far removed from the standard tropes of the genre, it is a considerable achievement.”

  • Abigail Dean’s DAY ONE has received a fantastic review from the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “Dean expands her cast, widens her scope and imbues the proceedings with gray areas of moral complexity and ambiguity — all while spinning a propulsive, compelling tale…By the time we get to the stunning conclusion, it has long been clear that this is a finely wrought work from a gifted storyteller.”

  • CrimeReads have included DAY ONE in two of their roundups: one about new releases and the other for the best psychological thrillers of March 2024.

  • Fabulous Magazine reviewed DAY ONE: “This exquisitely written novel is shocking, sad and so well handled”.

  • The Financial Times on DAY ONE: “The prospect of following the literary explosion that was Abigail Dean’s debut novel Girl A must have been daunting… There’s the same faultless observation of detail, and the challenging narrative — we learn piecemeal what happened before and after a violent incident — is gripping. [Day One]demonstrates that Dean is a star of the UK crime scene and here to stay”.

  • THE HOUSEHOLD by Stacey Halls has been included in Prima’s April issue, with Nina Pottell naming its prose “elegant”!

  • THE HOUSEHOLD was in the Waterstones Best Books for April round-up.

  • Good Housekeeping call THE HOUSEHOLD “compelling and richly detailed.”
