Books in the Media

This week saw lots of great press for our authors!

Sally Abé

Sally Abé wrote a piece for The Telegraph on the Michelin Awards results. She notes how despite the 20 new one-star restaurants from the Michelin awards, there was not a single female head chef:

“I’ll champion women to the ends of the earth, but I think men need to be on board with that as well. That’s key. The people who are in a position of power and privilege can really effect change, so it would be good to see more men getting on board with trying to make things equal. Quotas would be disingenuous, but it would be good to see Michelin promoting women to come into the industry. We’ve got to get them in before we can give them Michelin stars.”

Jennifer Saint

Ahead of Jennifer Saint’s ATALANTA coming out this Thursday, there has been lots of media coverage!

Jennifer was interviewed by the Evening Standard on the trend of Greek Myth Reinvention. Jennifer says, “There’s something universally appealing about Greek mythology…As a reader, I’m always really excited when I see somebody has a different take on a story.”

Woman and Home have included ATALANTA in their May book club picks, calling Jennifer Saint’s latest novel “brilliantly evocative”.

Anna Bonet for iNews listed ATALANTA as one of the best books to read in April!

Sophie Haydock

THE FLAMES was included in a round-up by the New York Times Book Review.

Elvin James Mensah

SMALL JOYS was included in Goodreads’ round-up of new books out today.

BiblioLifestyle included ROOTLESS by Krystle Zara Appiah and SMALL JOYS by Elvin James Mensah on their ‘Best 2023 Books about Friendship and Family’!

Krystle Zara Appiah

Krystle Zara Appiah’s ROOTLESS has been selected as book of the week in Woman magazine!

Jennifer Saint, Rajasree Variyar and Anna Mazzola

Glamour released their best new books of April and Jennifer Saint’s ATALANTA, Rajasree Variyar’s THE DAUGHTERS OF MADURAI and Anna Mazzola’s THE HOUSE OF WHISPERS were all featured!

On Atalanta: “Jennifer Saint you can do no wrong. This unstoppable author bounded into the world of epic mythological re-tellings with Ariadne, following up with the brilliant Elektra. Her focus on the women behind the scenes continues with this tale of heroism and courage.”

On The House of Whispers: “The atmosphere seeps from the pages within minutes and we were mesmerised.”

On The Daughters of Madurai: “A truly powerful story that remains with you long after the final word has been read.”

Louise O’Neill

For BBC Radio 4, Louise O’Neill recorded a podcast with Professor Sarah Peverley to discuss the dark, doomed tale of The Little Mermaid. You can listen to the episode here!

Stephen Aryan

The British Fantasy Society published a brilliant review of Stephen Aryan’s THE JUDAS BLOSSOM on their website. We especially love this part: “The Judas Blossom is one of the best books I have read. Not just this year or the last twelve months, but ever. Period.” Sarah Deeming concludes, “The Judas Blossom is a powerful story of power, love and betrayal in a vivid setting. Books like this make reviewing so much fun because it is everything I could have wanted and more. A definite 5 stars.”

Anna Mazzola

Heat magazine reviewed THE HOUSE OF WHISPERS, calling it an "atmospheric spine-tingler.”
