Books in the Media
The past week saw lots of our amazing authors in the media…
Glowing reviews of THE DAUGHTERS OF MADURAI have been published in Platinum Magazine and Woman’s Own! Woman’s Own writes that “Rajasree Variyar’s debut novel is utterly devastating and quietly hopeful”, meanwhile Platinum call it “raw and moving”.
THE BONE SHARD WAR received a starred review in the Library Journal and was also their pick of the week! They write: “The multiple points of view give readers a deep understanding of the different characters as they are given their moments to reflect and grow, and the action is dramatic and impactful.” Their verdict is that Stewart’s final book in The Drowning Empire trilogy is “an epic and emotional end to the series”.
Bernardine Evaristo wrote a piece for Vogue on Black British women novelists who have books being published in 2023 and Krystle Zara Appiah is mentioned! In introduction, she writes, “Perhaps one day it really won’t matter who writes books, but, for now, here’s a shout out to all the writers who are Black and British and women breaking through, and all the writers who’ve kept going…”
The Guardian published a piece about feminist retellings which mentioned Jennifer Saint’s ELEKTRA. On why retellings have become so popular in modern times, editor Emma Herdman is quoted: “Books could delve into the same myth and yet be completely different – no story is ever the same with each writer bringing a new perspective, creating a different world and characters, or choosing to highlight a different element of the tale. The female perspective has become more valued – story, regardless of genre, now rightfully reflects that.”
