Gemma Chan & Netflix option The Moon Represents My Heart

Netflix and 21 Laps have optioned television rights to The Moon Represents My Heart by debut novelist Pim Wangtechawat, after a heated four-way auction amongst the largest streamers in the industry. Film rights were sold by Tara Timinsky at Grandview LA on behalf of Liza DeBlock at Mushens Entertainment.

Gemma Chan (Eternals, Crazy Rich Asians) is attached to potentially star and executive produce. The project will go into development as a part of Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Shadow & Bone) and 21 Laps’ overall deal with Netflix. Shawn Levy and Josh Barry will Executive Produce. Emily Morris, SVP who brought the book into Netflix, will oversee for producers alongside Manager Moera Ainai.

The Moon Represents My Heart follows a British-Chinese family living in London who are hiding a secret – they all have the ability to time travel. When their parents depart for the past and never return, Tommy and Eva are forced to deal with their grief under the guardianship of their strict grandmother. Struggling with the loss of their parents, the twins develop their power and search time for love and meaning. But as Eva becomes happy in the present, Tommy’s inability to confront his own history in the face of tragedy has severe ramifications for the people who can truly bring him happiness. 

The Moon Represents My Heart will be published in June 2023 by Juliet Mabey at Oneworld, and by Keller Editore in Italy.
