HQ triumphs in five-way auction for Louise O'Neill's latest for six-figure deal
HQ has triumphed in a five-way auction for Louise O’Neill’s latest book. Publishing director Danielle Pender acquired UK and Commonwealth (ex-Canada) rights to A Bigger Life from Juliet Mushens at Mushens Entertainment for a six-figure deal.
The book is scheduled to publish as a super-lead non-fiction title in September 2026.
The publisher described A Bigger Life as is a bold, witty and deeply moving exploration of reinvention and self-discovery. The book follows O’Neill’s journey following the unexpected collapse of her long-term relationship. She "embarks on an audacious dating experiment across cities such as Paris, London and New York, blending humour, heartache and sexual liberation".
The synopsis added: "Along the way, she challenges the societal expectations surrounding love, marriage and happiness, inviting readers to question what a ’good life’ truly means."
HQ described it as "more than a memoir", but as a "rallying cry for anyone – particularly women over 35 – who has felt constrained by traditional life markers".
O’Neill said: "This book is a celebration of joy, freedom and the transformative power of reclaiming your life on your own terms. It’s about breaking free from the lies women are told about their value, centring our own pleasure, and finding fun and adventure in the process."
Pender said: "Louise O’Neill is one of the most exciting voices of her generation. We are incredibly proud to bring this empowering, bold and beautifully written book to readers."
Mushens said: "Louise is such a funny, incisive writer. A Bigger Life completely reinvents the narrative of depressing dating stories and limiting options. We loved Danielle’s vision for the book and feel in very safe hands."
