Juliet Mushens Predicts Industry Trends for 2021

This week, Juliet Mushens is featured by The Bookseller as industry heads predict trends for publishing in 2021. Learning from the challenges of 2020, Mushens emphasised the value of digital events as being accessible in terms of time, cost and travel for authors and attendees alike. She also noted that Mushens Entertainment hired our first remote intern in 2020. Our intern worked from her family home in the Midlands, and we hope to roll out the scheme on a bigger scale throughout the next year.

Finally, Mushens wants to see “increased diversity in publishing: interrogating our hiring practices, who we represent, who we publish, and how we support their long-term careers. Our prize with Avon to find a new commercial fiction writer of colour launches in 2021 and we’re hoping to find lots of exciting new talent that way, as well as through our submission piles—our submission numbers jumped hugely in 2020, and I believe that will continue in 2021.”
