Mushens Entertainment is the sponsor for the Brick Lane Short Story Prize 2023

Mushens Entertainment is sponsoring the Brick Lane Short Story Prize this year!

Amongst other prizes, the winner and first two runners-up will receive individual feedback on submission materials from our agents.

Our senior assistant, Kiya Evans, will also be judging the prize for the 2023 competition alongside Gurnaik Johal, author of We Move and Melissa Cox, Publishing Director for Zaffre at Bonnier Books.

When asked what she’s looking for in submissions, Kiya said: “I’ll always be drawn to writing with a distinctive voice and a strong sense of place. My favourite short stories are often intensely imaginative, unflinching, and honest, in whatever way that may be. I’m excited to read stories and meet characters I can’t stop thinking about – like a song you can’t get out of your head.”

Juliet Mushens is quoted in the BookBrunch article saying, “"I’m really excited to be working with Brick Lane Bookshop to support such a great prize - we can’t wait to read the exciting submissions which come through the door.”
