One More Chapter falls for rom-com in two-book deal with Claire Frances
One More Chapter has fallen for a two-book deal with debut author Claire Frances. The first book in the deal, Someone Like Pearl, is described as a neurodivergent romantic comedy.
Publisher Charlotte Ledger acquired world English language rights from Rachel Neely at Mushens Entertainment. Dutch translation rights have sold to Meulenhoff Boekerij, with Someone Like Pearl scheduled for publication in 2025.
Neely said: “I’m thrilled that Claire has found such a wonderful publishing home at One More Chapter, with an editor that really understands her vision for Someone Like Pearl.”
Frances’ debut centres on 27-year-old Pearl who, like the author, lives with OCD. The story follows what happens when Pearl pushes herself out of her comfort zone after meeting Jack.
Ledger commented: “From the moment I started reading, Pearl jumped straight off the page and cemented herself firmly in my imagination and heart. She is completely her own person and only Claire’s fantastic writing can really capture how believable and authentic she is as a protagonist. In the way the iconic Bridget Jones has done before, readers of all ages will relate to and love Pearl and I am excited to work with Rachel, Claire and my team at [One More Chapter] to introduce the world to her.”
Frances added: “My hope is that readers will fall in love with [Pearl] too as they join her on her quest for a real connection, with some unexpected twists and turns along the way! I am so excited to be working with Charlotte and the rest of the team at One More Chapter and HarperCollins – they’ve been amazing – as has my wonderful agent, Rachel, who has been incredibly supportive throughout this entire journey.”
